I just did a vero layout for this effect. I don’t know exactly what it does or what it sounds like, but I’m intrigued. I may build this one and verify it myself one of these days. Let me know if you beat me to it.

The effect is pretty cool, maybe a bit narrow in its usage, but I’m most exited about the LED bezel. What a fantastic bezel! (Got it from banzai).

I was looking for some layouts, and just see yours. I’ve got a Machine that don’t have the trimpot you mention, but a 470 ohms resistor. It also doesn’t have zener diodes, but 2 x 1N4148 after C1, one connected to +9V, and the other to the ground. Everything else is the same.
Mine is a 2001 model, what is yours ? I did not find any pictures or info on the net for such a pedal with a trimpot inside…

I built this one over the weekend, sounds killer in front of overdrives and fuzz, either makes the drive more defined or just plan more industrial sounding (which I like). Thanks for the layout… BTW I used a 10k Intensity pot, seems to work OK, although I may swap it out when my parts come in.

I have recently found a whole bunch of 1n34a diodes online. Ebay still has offers on them. Radioshacks in Holland hardly sell any components these days, so I always rely on the online-businesses for parts.
If the 1n34a is really hard to get (or expensive) you can almost always substitute it with a 1n60, which is easier and cheaper to obtain.

Those germanium diodes are quite fragile, hehe. You could always try substituting them with a pair of normal small-signal ones (1N914 / 1N4148) or maybe even a pair of LEDs, but it’s probably going to sound a bit different. I’m not sure what the voltage drop is on a 1N34A, but it might be worth trying to find a ballpark substitute. Maybe a pair of schottky diodes? Use sockets so you can later sub in a pair of 1N34A when you get hold of some. Good luck 🙂

thanx so much for the reply. I decided to leave the pot externally, but on the side.
However one of the 1N34A diodes snapped in my hand (very strange), so my local store does not supply it, and i m dying to know if there is anything else i can use instead that would do the same job more or less.

Thanks, Bob. The extra pot is an internal trim pot on the original. If you don’t want to surface mount it you can leave it at a fixed position inside the enclosure. Good luck with your build!

I m about to build the Machine, and noticed there is an extra pot compared to the original box. Is the intensity an added control?
